COVID19 INFORMATION!

April 14th Update:

NFES Second Grade Families,

Welcome to EDFLIX! We are so excited to see all that you create during episode one! Each week, we will feature a different content area for you to show off your hard work to your classmates! Pick one assignment under that content area from the EDFLIX choice board to complete and share on SeeSaw. We will be viewing your work and providing feedback each week. Please remember that this is YOUR project. Yours will look different from your classmates, and that is TOTALLY fine! Use your creativity, and most of all ENJOY this opportunity to share!

Love,

 Your Second Grade Teachers 😊

Instructions:

  1. Pick an activity under the Language Arts column to complete. Get working, and head back to your device once you are finished and ready to share!

  2. Log into SeeSaw and choose the “2nd grade EDFLIX Episode 1” assignment under the activities tab.

  3. Click the GREEN “Add Response” button to begin sharing.

  4. You may select any of the options to best display your work (photo, drawing, video, upload, note, or link).

  5. Once you’re finished sharing, click the GREEN checkmark to submit your assignment.

  6. Enjoy exploring other classmates’ responses!

  7. Be on the lookout for feedback from your teacher! 😊

April 13th Update:

Hey NFES students and families!

April is School Library Month (and National Poetry Month)!  I would love to hear what you love about your school library.  Why do you enjoy coming to the library? What do you miss about our library since we’re not in school right now? What are some things we’ve done in library class that you have enjoyed?

If you or your family has anything you love about our school library to share, click on the link below and fill out the Google doc form.  You could also draw a picture or write a short poem (because it’s Poetry Month too!) to take a picture of and attach. I’ll tweet responses out on our school library’s Twitter page!  Of course, it will only show first names, and responses cannot be too long so that I can fit them in a tweet!

Be sure to have your family follow us on Twitter!  @FarmFoxesLib

Thanks!  Feel free to contact me with questions through email: skyoung@henrico.k12.va.us

April 2nd UPDATE:

Have a wonderful, relaxing, work-free SPRING BREAK! We will see you on Tuesday, April 14th for our next morning meeting!

March 29th: UPDATE: As instructed by the VA Governor, Henrico County Public Schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year.

  • At this time, continue using the county packet for each week.

    • Download Grades 2-3 student packet: DOWNLOAD

    • Download Traditions project background info: DOWNLOAD

  • Each teacher may offer additional but OPTIONAL assignments if your child needs some variety or extra work. We appreciate all you continue to do to support your student(s) at home.

  • We will reach out and update you if these guidelines change. Please do NOT stress about "keeping up with the curriculum" or teaching new material to your child- the county is currently working on a plan to ensure that all students receive the necessary grade-level material.

Morning Meetings:

Have a wonderful, relaxing, work-free SPRING BREAK! We will see you on Tuesday, April 14th for our next morning meeting!

The 2nd grade team developed morning meeting plans if you would like to incorporate them into your family's schedule/routine. They will change daily (Monday-Friday) and each week will include a Flipgrid code to allow second grade students to answer the daily question and view each other's videos.

Click here or copy and paste this link: bit.ly/NFES2ndgrademorningmeeting into your browser to access this document!

Hey Foxes!  What are you reading?  I would love to hear about books you are reading and have enjoyed recently!  Through this Flipgrid link https://flipgrid.com/4cc044f8, you can make a quick video for me when or if you have time (not required, just for fun!).  I'd love to see your sweet faces and hear from you!

Miss you!

Ms. Young

Repost from Sara Young (Librarian)

Hello Nuckols Farm Families!

On Friday, students were given the opportunity to borrow 5 extra books from our school library so that they have several choices for reading material during our distance/virtual learning time.  I hope your children will take time to discover and enjoy great books, stories, and authors!  You can also find some other sources of reading material in my Schoology course (children can login through Clever with their usernames and passwords).  The same information is located in a post in the announcements section of our school website.  https://nuckolsfarm.henricoschools.us/2020/03/15/reading-literacy-and-learning-resources/

Since many students checked out additional library books, your child could have anywhere from 3 to 10 Nuckols Farm library books.  I would really appreciate it if you would help your child to gather all NFE library books and place/store them in one location (either in or next to their school book bag is a great place) during this distance learning time period.  They can enjoy the books throughout this time, and then when we return to school, all the NFE books will be easy to locate in order to return them to school.  All Nuckols Farm books will have a stamp on the inside saying "Nuckols Farm Elementary Library."

Thanks so much!  I cannot check your child's library account remotely, so I cannot let you know exactly how many books your child has until we return to school.  However, if you have any other questions for me, I will be checking email daily, so feel free to contact me at skyoung@henrico.k12.va.us.

                                                                                                                  March 13, 2020

Dear Second Grade Families,

Today your child should have brought home a packet of activities and information in his/her take-home folder from Henrico County. These packets should be used to supplement instruction that would have taken place for the upcoming 2 weeks (March 16-27) that Henrico County Public Schools will be closed,

Quick Facts:

  1. Explanation of Packet:

    1. The activities packet sent home is a combination of choice menus (various activities from which students may choose from a set number) and materials to print or recreate in order to complete the task of their choice.

    2. These packets will ONLY be graded for COMPLETION, not accuracy.

  2. Resources to help you:

    1. Use the directions in the instruction/activity packet to understand specific criteria.

    2. Your students should have these materials taken home with them:

  • Journals

  • Toolbox

  • Construction/writing paper

  • Henrico login card (to access Clever online/at home)

    • Note: some 2nd grade classes glued in these cards to their “Thinking Journals”

  1. What your child should turn in: (each week)

    1. Tradition project (may be completed over the 2 weeks the schools are closed)

    2. 4 activities off the choice board (1 Reading/Writing, 1 Math, 1 Social Studies, and 1 Science)

    3. 1 reading activity (separate from all-subject choice board)

    4. 1 math activity (separate from all-subject choice board)

***Please note: this activity packet is designed to be used for MULTIPLE weeks, and as such, these activities can provide learning experiences for each week.

→ For example, a student may choose to complete certain activities from the choice boards during “Week 1” (March 16-20) and select different activities for “Week 2” (March 23-27).

Please do NOT complete EVERYTHING on these menus in two weeks. Read directions carefully to avoid confusion and stress! These resources are meant to continue high quality learning at home if we are unable to meet at school to provide it. We appreciate all you do to support your students everyday!
